Do I really need medication?
When someone is experiencing prolonged sadness, distress, or an inability to cope with the demands and/or stresses of life they may benefit from psychiatric care. Psychiatric care combines the diagnosis of mental health disorders, and treatment through medication management and therapy to help people return to a state of mental wellness.

Am I weak if I need to use medication to help me?
Taking medication for mental health concerns is not a sign of weakness; rather, it reflects incredible strength in acknowledging and addressing one’s struggles. Mental health conditions are complex and can significantly impact various aspects of life. Seeking medication is a proactive and empowering choice, demonstrating resilience and a commitment to one’s well-being. Just as individuals seek medical treatment for physical ailments, considering medication for mental health issues is a rational and courageous decision.

Will medication change who I am?
Medications should not alter your fundamental personality. If you notice any shifts in your character, we are dedicated to working diligently to address and remedy these concerns. Our approach prioritizes your unique identity and strives to ensure that any prescribed medications support your mental health without compromising the essence of who you are.

What if I experience side effects?
Side effects can be an alarming concern, and at every appointment, we will discuss any side effects you may be experiencing and aim to prescribe the lowest dose possible for remission of symptoms. We prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship with our clients, actively seeking feedback, and fostering open communication to recognize and address any adverse effects. Through collaborative efforts, we strive to tailor medication regimens, ensuring that everyone receives the right medication at the right dose, promoting optimal mental health outcomes and enhancing overall well-being.

What can I expect from an initial psychiatric evaluation?
Your first session will be an evaluation that will give your provider a thorough understanding of your daily experience as we discuss current symptoms, how these symptoms are affecting your life, and what you have previously tried to manage these symptoms. Along with this, your provider will gather information about your medical, family, and psychiatric history. During your evaluation, you will have plenty of time to ask questions, so we can collaborate on your treatment plan.

What are follow-up medication management appointments?
Medication management appointments usually last up to 30 minutes depending on your needs and complexity of care. At these appointments, we discuss how you are responding to the medication, side effects, and improvements or worsening of mental health conditions. We discuss anything you feel is important to share, and how you have been doing in between appointments. Supportive and CBT therapy, including therapeutic tools and interventions, may be discussed during these medication management appointments.
